Top Lego Works Of 2025...

It's so hard to choose my favourite works of 2025, this was a top 5 list but that has gone out of the window. Mostly due to the fact that I produced 93 works this year, which has impressed me in I'm honest, far more than I thought I'd be able to do. There is a chance I may catch up yet...

I have selected 3 of my favourite works from 2025, I will go into them in depth and what I like about them and also, what challenged me.

Captain Rex and the 501st on Umbara

A classic scene that all Star Wars the Clones Wars fans will know, widely considered one of the best Clone Wars story arcs. So, I shied away from Umbara for some time. I wasn't intimidated per-say, but I didn't know if I could pull off the unique feel of the planet. All of this turned out to be for nothing, the world lent itself well to my work flow and techniques. The unique colours of the planet make it very distinct also which helps.

So I am a big fan of the Clone Army Custom realistic style, so once I had the relevant characters I added the correct accessories and weapons. I do particularly like that I was able to get Arc Trooper Fives in the background here. This is also one of the first works I produced in which I framed for both 1:1 and 16:9, which excited me a great deal, it meant I could use it for Youtube work, the website as well as Instagram.

Darth Malgus...

Darth Malgus

The legendary Sith Lord Darth Malgus. So the previous 501st work was quite standard for me, in terms of working practice, however a lot more went into creating this one. I have been sitting on my Malgus minifigure for sometime, again wishing to do such a sought after minifigure the justice it deserves. Finding it for a decent price on BrickLink was the first step, I paid £140, a little on the high side but I wanted one in near perfect condition.

Secondly, I'm a huge Star Wars fan right? I wanted my Malgus to have something a little extra, a hooded cloak to make him look a little more formidable. In order to do this, I needed a knock off Malgus and some Milliput Model Putty. So once I have the correct amount of Putty I can mould the cape, I used a knock of so that I didn't make a mess or damage the valuable official Lego figure. After drying and sanding I had a part that I could use for my work.

I think it turned out pretty well, and has opened the door for me to try and produce a few other parts like this. Moulds for figures that have unique heads and body plans, I think it will mostly include hoods and capes.

The Republic Gunship (LAAT)

The final work I would like to share is the Republic Gunship. An iconic Star Wars vehicle, and one of my favourites of course. I have long wanted to get into creating works based around larger scenes, sets and builds. This one was hugely satisfying to me and a real stand out as it's not something I am very used to. I particularly like the Clone Troopers aboard and the one sat with his legs over the side, it really is all in the details.

To create this one I photographed the build at a high resolution and cut it out with photoshop, used Adobe Stock to find a top down image of the desert floor. Placed my image above this and continued with the colour grade. I finally added a motion blur and little shadow as well as the bubble turret beam and explosion effects. This is certainly something I will be repeating in the future, Slave 1 anybody?
