The Fear Of Missing Out...

Sometimes Lego releases come thick and fast and it can be a little overwhelming. The rumours the sets and the customs sometimes all drop at once and it can be hard to know what to do. If you're reading this article expecting some kind of solution to this I am sorry to disappoint...

Lego Releases...

So in my experience Lego releases aren't such a big issue here. For the following reasons, most sets have a decent shelf life meaning adequate time to buy. In addition to this there is rarely a supply issue, sure sets sometimes go out of stock or on back order, often during their initial release but besides the #40558 Clone Minifigure Pack most recover from this. In addition to this there are work arounds, for example; I don't really want or need the new Ahsoka Jedi Interceptor, none the less I am able to pick up the figures from BrickLink. Finally the guilt factor for spending money in my eyes is reduced with official Lego. The main reason for this thinking is that if I woke up tomorrow with no love for the hobby, I would most likely get my investment back if not more. So based on all of this where is the issue, it lies with the custom market...

The Lego Custom Market...

The custom Lego market can be infuriating, limited stock, one time only releases (which makes no sense may I add, I sold out of something in minutes, made money but I think I'll call it a day here. Solid business plan there...) at times mad pricing, scalpers and finally ridiculous wait times for pre-orders.

However all those negatives aside, they got me... It is rare, and there are companies I wont go near due to past experiences. However, due to that all encompassing fear of missing out on a one time release, they still got me. Circling back to my first paragraph, I don't have a solution for this. There are a few things that can help; patience, more often than not with Lego, things will come around again. Especially main characters, it makes it easier to spot when a figure is more than likely never going to be seen again.

Another method I use is to be selective, have a vision for a work or character you want to feature and pursue it. Don't just buy figures and parts randomly in an out of control manor (like someone else has been lately...)

If anyone else has any suggestions, and how to reduce the missing out on figures and parts feeling I am and I'm sure many others are all ears, may the force be with you all.
