Playing With AI and Lego...

AI is very much a controversial subject within the Toy Photography community (If there is such a thing). But is it possible to use it as an aid?

Moroff Portrait...
Moroff Portrait...

This Portrait of Moroff (pictured above), is an image I have taken, airbrushed, it's had its background removed (plain white) and replaced with AI. While I admit that it wasn't perfect, the selection wasn't great and the feet weren't right at all, but cropped here at 16:9 it isn't a bad attempt. It's on the way to sharable work, the thing that interests me most is what it was trying to do with the feet area. Not pictured but it attempted to provide a sharp detailed area and shadow where the minifigure was standing. AI recognised the figure was standing and attempted to place it in the environment and had a reasonable understanding of the depth and scale. The only thing that let the software down was the depth of field in the original image, Moroff's feet just weren't as sharp as generated image and it looked out of place as I was unable to move the mask. I think with some more practise I will be able to use AI tools in future works. But what about using AI right now?

Rex and Ahsoka go AWOL...
Rex and Ahsoka go AWOL...

In this latest image of Captain Rex and Ahsoka, post Venator crash and on the run I have incorporated the use of AI. I have used generative fill to extend the image into a useable 16:9 ratio, the original RAW image was missing the negative space on the left of Rex. It was the very edge of my backdrop and was clearly not usable past a certain point, so selecting the area and asking AI to 'generate fill' with no prompts I was presented with 3 options. This one was the best and it is almost impossible to see where the AI meets the original image. Very handy to push your works further, what do you think about the use of AI in works like mine? Reach out on Instagram with your thoughts. May the force be with you...
